Welcome to Coin Microscopes. We provide low cost, high quality discount microscopes for viewing coins by those into numismatics. Our microscopes are great for the coin collector because they allow detailed viewing of coin errors, date overstrikes, mint marks, double dies, and the condition of the patina on the surface of the metal coin.

These coin microscopes can be excellent for aiding in coin identification and detecting counterfeit coins. Depending on the age of the coin, the patina, or surface of the coin, should look a certain way. Also, effects of over aggressive cleaning of a coin can be seen better under a coin microscope. If you are an experienced coin collector or simply doing this as a hobby, you'll be surprised to find how important owning a good coin microscope can be to your coin collection. We have many collectors and coin dealers who scan bags of wheat pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollars, and silver dollars searching for the slightest coin errors. Many have found rare and valuable coins by searching under a microscope. The coin microscope aids in viewing and examining the smallest features and discovering errors on a coin.

Coin microscopes are normally going to be low power stereoscopic microscopes. The stereo microscope has two microscope eyepieces with two independent paths of light and two objectives to pick up the light. This stereo effect gives 3D viewing and depth perception. Our stereoscopic coin microscopes come in both binocular and trinocular versions. The binocular has two microscope eyepieces and the trinocular version has the addition of a photography port for capturing images. We can attach film cameras and digital cameras or attach USB microscope cameras that connect directly to a USB port on a computer. If a person wants to sell rare coins, especially those with coin errors, it is a benefit having captured digital images of a coin in close up detail. These types of cameras are not used for capturing an image of a whole coin, but rather, getting specific details of the coin in close up. For example, a date overstrike can be seen perfectly in a close up image taken with a digital USB microscope camera. But such an error can be much harder to see when viewing the whole coin.

Our coin microscopes can come in fixed magnification objectives or with zoom magnification objectives. The zoom optics are more costly, but provide much easier viewing and control of the image as the magnification is continuously variable over the full zoom magnification range. This allows someone to begin observing the whole coin, then to turn the zoom knob to increase magnification as needed, and quickly zoom into a specific place on the coin where they think a coin error may be. A fixed magnification stereoscopic microscope typically has a turret that is turned to change magnification and generally will only have two magnification choices. This type of microscope is much lower priced and is still a good coin microscope for a coin collector on a smaller budget looking for a cheap scope. But for serious coin collectors, coin dealers, and those into numismatics, we really recommend the higher grade stereoscopes with zoom objectives.
